My second marathon in Fargo was better than the first. Course is advertised as Fast and Flat and that's exactly what it is. The swag is the best I have ever recieved for races. The hotels jack their prices, but it's possible to find decent rooms if you reserve them right away when the race registration has opened and you know the weekend it's on.
Aid stations are fully stocked and people are lined up everywhere shaking cowbells and cheering you on. People have signs everywhere - you get the race support of a big city while running through the scenery of a smaller one. People are super friendly - people in the residential areas often stand with orange slices, ice cube trays, jolly ranchers, etc. The community is supportive, and the nearby hotels often offer free nutrition bars or water at the front desk free of charge, and it's a pleasant surprise since they don't advertise doing such kind things.
