The Hatfield and McCoy Marathon weekend have several options for races, a full marathon, a double half marathon (for those looking to get a half in Ky and Wv on the same day) or a choice of either the River Road half marathon or the Blackberry half marathon. I did the River Road half. For all choices, the race provides transportation to and from the starts of various races and to the finish celebration as well.
This race had a great feel to it from the volunteers to the course support to the party afterwards. If you are looking for alot of spectators on the course, this may not be the race for you. However the scenery is spectacular and all the volunteers were very enthusiastic. The course is open to traffic for the last few miles but even those residents driving were waving and honking at us! This race is in June so it is hot, but the fact there is no course limits and the volunteers stay on the course is a huge help. As a back of the packer it was great to not have to stress over cut off times.
Williamson has ample parking for those who are staying out of town. The town of Logan is where I stayed and it was quick and easy to get to and from the expo and the race. If you are looking for something different or looking to do all 50 states, this race is worth checking out.
