Syracuse Half Marathon was so great I just had to write a review!
Expo:
I picked up my packet Saturday coming in from out of town. It was a quick in an out. However, the store where the expo was held was very crowded which is understandable. Vendors were ok. I had registered somewhat last minute but still got a personalized bib which was great. Love the jacket. Great quality. It’s great not to get a T-shirt for once. Thank you!!!
Race morning:
I stayed at the Marriott Downtown just a few steps away from the On Center. It was cold (!) and having the entire convention center to stay warm was great. Plenty of space to stretch as well. It did start to snow so every minute indoors was more than appreciated especially for someone used to much warmer temperatures. The race started a little later then scheduled but everything moved along beautifully.
Course:
The course has a decent longer hill right around mile 2. Lots of people along the course with signs despite the snow and cold. Several smaller hills and roughly as many downhills. Mile 10 and 11 felt like they went on forever because there were few people out to cheer us on. Overall I very much enjoyed the course. The snow actually felt good and we had barely any wind with the exception for when we cut back through the downtown area and the tall buildings towards the end of the race.
Aid Stations:
Aid stations were a little more spread out than I am used to from other races. Up until mile 9 they were out of GU by the time I got there. So if you are more mid-pack/end of the pack bring your own gels. But the volunteers were great, braving the cold and snow. So thank you to all the volunteers making this happen.
Medal:
Love the medal. Very solid.
Summary:
I would definitely recommend the Syracuse Half, whether you’re new to the distance or a seasoned runner. The weather is challenging if you’re not used to cold temperatures and snow. That said I’m planning to come back next year. So everyone at the Syracuse Half Marathon: Thank you for putting up a great race!!!! It was well worth the trip up north.
