This was my first time running the Bridge Run. I’ve heard about it locally for years, so I knew it was one of the “bigger” races in the Savannah area. I’ll keep my review short and simple:
PROS:
Lots of porta-potties! There were about a dozen at the packet pickup on race day, and a dozen more at the start line (a 5 minute walk from the packet pickup). There were also a couple placed around the one mile mark.
Very scenic route. You’re on the bridge a majority of the time, so you can see all of river street and then you finish in downtown Savannah so it was a very pretty run.
The expo was pretty nice with a bunch of booths from local businesses and sports related gear. Free coffee, beer and sports drinks. The packet pick up was quick and easy, decently organized.
Price was good. I signed up a month prior and only paid $35 for the 5K.
CONS:
You have the option to park near the finish line (on the GA side of the bridge) and ride a free trolley to the start (the SC side). Good idea, but because of them running behind, we had to wait 18 minutes after the original start time to actually start the race. They should have a cut off time to ride the trolley. I didn’t expect such a big delay from such a well established race.
You get a pretty decent long sleeved racing shirt for signing up. But that’s it. No “swag bag”. They post on their FB page a “virtual” swag bag but it’s pretty lame. A coupon for a free water at Enmark? Greeaatt.
Overall I would recommend the race to a friend, especially as a great challenge run. I plan to run it again next year, but hope they fix the trolley delays.
