The Chicago Marathon is my favorite marathon that I've run to date. So much so that it will be the first marathon I run for a second time this year.

The event is huge, as it is one of the World Majors, so you are bound to see many other runners wandering around the city leading up to the race and afterwards. The Expo is crowded, but well-run and there are great items to pick up around the expo in addition to the race packet itself. I received some free ice packs from one of the vendors that I still have and use frequently.

The race itself is amazingly well-run. There is a plethora of staff helping runners get to the proper corral. You are definitely confined to the corral on your bib so don't try to move up to a faster corral!

The course is gorgeous, you get to run through the city and some very cool neighborhoods around Chicago. There are plenty of spectators cheering loudly along the whole course. I didn't stay long at the finish line festivities but it was easy to get in and out of.

If you're looking for a good shakeout crew before or after the race check out November Project Chicago as well. They have a huge workout by the Bean on the Friday before the race and a easy shakeout celebratory workout on Monday afterwards. Look out for their cheerstation along the course as well!!

Thoroughly enjoy your experience, its a fantastic marathon in an amazing city--and might I suggest a deep dish pizza and beer for your post race meal :)
