I come down from NYC for the weekend to run this race and very glad I choose this for a January "escape" run.
Let's start with the course itelf. The only "elevation" occurs within the first 2 miles and, being Florida, is the bridge / causeway approach heading from Miami to Miami Beach. This gets it out of the way immediately and before sun rise. Well thought out. The course takes you through downtown Miami and up Ocean Front drive in Miami Beach, along with maybe a total of 5 miles on Bridges and causeways. Really shows off the town, the cruise ships in Port, etc. Great views. It was an overcast day, but this didn't strike me as a course that would provide much shade. But hey, it's Miami! This is not a run that really goes through residential sections (briefly in Miami Beach only). I am ok with that but just noting.
Crowd support was really great for the last 2 - 2.5 miles upon re-entering Miami.
The post race party area in the park was really well done and it appeared to me to be as friendly to athletes with challenges (not just wheelchair) as I have seen.
Definitely recommend this one.

Pros -
Flat. This is about as flat a course as you will ever find.
Scenery - Liberty State Park affords great views of Manhattan and the Statute of Liberty.
Accessible - Parking (for the NYC area) and public transportation are great.
Neutrals -
The start time. Nice to sleep in a bit for a race but in 2018 was very hot. Cannot control the weather obviously but an earlier start time could help vs the late start.
Cons -
Temps - Mid 80s race temp in 2018. I love hot weather running but be aware September in this area can be summer-heat warm.
No shade - related, but don't think that running a portion through Liberty State Park means shade. It doesn't.
Spectator support - for a dense area 10 minute PATH ride from NYC, not many people out to cheer.

I ran this event in 2008 so be aware this is probably dated as to the current incarnation of the event...
Positive -
Well run race for the number of runners involves. Waves were spread out and volunteers and entertainment (not everyone had ear buds with iPods (haha) in those days!) long the route was as good as I have been a part of.
Neutral -
So the big unique (for me) part of this run was going to be the loop around the Motor Speedway where the 500 car race is held. At the risk of sounding negative... in actuality this was not interesting in practice. At all. And of course no shade. Much preferred the other portions of the course.

This was my first half marathon in 2006. Very accessible on race morning as opposed to some of the larger races involving shuttles and middle of the night wake-up call. An overcast, but good fall day in the Midwest, for running. Spectator support was better than expected for "small town" race. The highlight was the opportunity to run over the bridge at the very start / two states.
