This is my second Savannah Publix Half. My Fifth overall half. This year was a let down from last year. I am attributing it to last year was my first half.
I liked the new course. The humidity was 900% and the gnats were bothersome. Both a negative quality of Savannah.
I had a great pace until mile 9. I started cramping. I could not get over a brisk walk without my calves almost seizing.
On the way I saw so many people going straight when you were to do an out and back, cut through the park, it was unreal. Ladies, you only cheated yourselves.
I am married to a native Savannah boy and spend a lot of time visiting the in-laws. The City’s beauty never ceases to amaze me. Our hotel was on Bay Street. Nice hotel but very noisey. If I do this one again, I’ll stay at the inlaws’ since the “official hotel of the race” required a 2 night stay. I stayed there for the Best Damn Race and was so confident. However, parking was not an issue. We were less than a block from the start.
Last year everyone had pictures at the finish line. This year only the 3 hour or less.
The folks at the mimosa table looked at me as if I had snakes in my hair when I asked just for orange juice. The woman was rude even when I told her I was dehydrated and just needed the juice.
I paid like everyone else. Unlike those that cheated I actually completed the entire race. I should have been afforded my finish line photo and no alcohol.
The bling was gorgeous. It showed two of the most famous landmarks in Savannah. I also like the bags and not shirts.
The Expo was good. I love the Publix bottles.
I turn 60 in a couple of weeks. Was really looking forward to this race. I left a bit disappointed.
