I ran all 3 previous Milwaukee Marathons and was excited to hear that a new race management company would revive this race in 2019.
First, I will mention the few things about the 2019 race that need improvement: The expo was small. The finish line food was minimal. The cups at the aid stations were plastic. OK, 3 things. Big deal (not).
Now for what I liked about the race:
The t-shirt was excellent. I loved all 3 previous MM shirts and love this one as well. I was surprised to get the shirt at the expo, but that is OK. I have plenty of race shirts that I do not wear. This one I will wear on a regular basis.
The fleece jacket was excellent. It fit well. It looked good. It was comfortable. I have many race jackets but this is one of the best.
The course was fantastic. This may be the best urban marathon course that I have run. You get to see so many different sites as you run: the downtown, lakefront, Marquette U., the Miller plant, Harley Davidson plant, residential neighborhoods, historic building, large and impressive old homes, … It was great to see so many different sites along the course.
The start/finish area was the best of all 4 MMs. Even though there were so many runners, the start area did not seem crowded. Finishing at the Fiserv Forum provided a great atmosphere and plenty of places to enjoy a beverage or food.
Finally, a big shout out to the police, medical, volunteers, management, and everyone else involved in the race. Everyone did a great job and should be proud of this event.
Thanks for everything!
