I ran this race again in 2019 (2018 review below) and there was a different race course set up. Instead you went through more of the neighborhood itself and around the Detroit Lake as well. This course wasn't as scenic as going around the whole lake and it was stared in a backward direction of the 2018 race. This race was still great, with plenty or aid stations, parking and cheerers. There were more hills but nothing that was too challenging. Can definitely set some PRs here and have fun!

You MUST have a plan for sleeping set up for all your team members. Some team members slept in our van, some on a football field ground and the ground of a gym floor with the yoga mat, small blanket and pillow that you bring. Even though the gym ground doesn't sound too bad there are people always coming in and out of this gym since everyone finishes at different times all night. I would recommend bringing ear plugs and a thick sleeping bag or yoga mat and extra blankets since it can get really cold even indoors. And taking naps when you can to get extra sleep in since our team finished later we got to lay down for not even 5 hours. I really enjoyed the teams who cheered for everyone and keep positive vibes going even though we knew everyone was tired. The end of the race is also very cool to watch all the teams come running in together. There aren't very many water stations and quite a bit of driving in between to get to the next relay zone and that can be a bit confusing at times. Make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks and ibuprofen. This races really pushes your limits based on the amount of miles you run and how much sleep you can get in at night and who you are running it with.

In 2018 I completed the half marathon race. At this time you ran around Detroit Lake and it was great scenery as you completed it. There were maybe 2 hills throughout the race which were not very high inclines. This is a great starter half marathon race. There are plenty of places to park, the public cheer you on quite a bit as you go past the lake houses and there are multiple aid stations throughout for water or gatorade. At the beginning of the race you get to see Dick Beardsley himself talk a bit about his experience in the Olympics and how happy he is that you are competing:). I would recommend this race!

This race is pretty great! It is very well organized and there are soooo many volunteers. You can drop your running bag off that you won't need by the race start line in a trailer where they keep track of it by numbers that they will hand you. There are many different waves that start the race at different times but a lot of it is weaving in and out of people at the beginning therefore don't expect a PR. It is more for the experience itself. The public do cheer you on as you run right through their neighborhood and there are also bands along the way as well for sweet music. The finish line is in the CU football stadium which was awesome. Since the race is so big for Boulder and it is in a downtown area there aren't as many places to park. The only downside is really all of the people can be a bit overwhelming during the race, after and before.
