My dad and I met up in Nevada to run the Platte Valley Companies Monument Marathon. I wasn't sure what to expect as I had never run a long distance in an area as rural as Scottsbluff but I was very impressed by what I experienced.

I found the race to be well organized. The Expo was a little lighter than you might find for a larger race, but it had a nice homey sort of feel. The staff were excellent, very friendly, and knowledgeable. They answered our questions about parking, when to get to the start line, and what to expect on the course.

The weather the day of the race was abysmal. I think it rained most of the time we were out there, but that didn't get in the way of the scenery being absolutely gorgeous. The course was some road and some trail. I definitely got a little muddy because of the rain and there were some parts that were quite hard to pass. It wasn't a race that one would have been able to PR given the conditions. However, on a day that wasn't pouring rain I can see myself and others doing very well. The medal we received at the end was a beautiful design. I would definitely do this race again.
