I started with the early runners at 6am. I mostly followed other runners with lights the first couple miles because it was so dark and so hard to see. All 50+ of us early runners ended up running too far in one direction between miles 1-2. (The turn around person wasn't there yet) Because of this my watch was a half mile and eventually a full mile off for the rest of the Marathon.
I'm a slow runner so when I crossed the finish line there was no food or water bottles left. Knowing that this happens with slower runners, I had packed snacks in my drop bag. After running 6 hours- you need to eat!

I crossed the finish line at 27.4 miles

There was no disappointment when I crossed the finish line. Exhausted and happy, tired tears. MARATHONER!

Parked in the parking garage and then there is a short walk to the starting line. It was dark out but there were race volunteers and lighted paths along the way to tell us where we needed to be.

CG warmed us up and race started on time. I'm a slow runner and was a bit disappointed that there wasn't any pacers at my pace. I can't remember where they stopped though -im thinking the last pace group was 2hr 30min??

Course is around White Rock lake which is beautiful and very familiar with DFW runners. There was great course support and people to cheer along the way.

There is always a lot of vendors and freebies to pick up at the end. Swag consisted of a drawstring bag, hat, shirt and the finisher medal.

Here in Texas, Sept is still very hot even though you want to think it's Fall. This race isn't an exception. Train to run in the sun!

When you sign up for a Half Marathon in August, in Texas you know your in a hot, sweaty run!

This race started at Norbuck Park and was for the most part an out and back course around beautiful White Rock Lake. Pacers were available all the way to three hours with a sweeper in the back.

Lots of water stations, snack tables and cold towels were available throughout the course.

The cold towels were a blessing!!

When I crossed the finish line I received my beautiful big medal and was given lots of water. There was also sprinklers to cool off in!

Rain, Rain Go Away.

Despite the steady downpour of rain this race was great! It was held at an Amphitheater which had a covered stage where a live band was playing. In front of the stage, there was race vendors with lots of fun freebies.

Before the race CG warmed everyone up. The race started and ended behind the stage. Race course had to be changed due to flooded trail so most of the race was on the road. Lots of race volunteers and great course support and cheerleaders to cheer on the runner's.

The medal we received at the end had a fire and a police vehicle that lights up with blue and red! Probably my most fun medal.

Towne Lake 5k was one of my first races back post Covid Shutdowns and it was awesome!

Ampt did a great job following all covid precautions to insure the safety of everyone. Temp checks and rolling start times for each race distance were put in place. In the starting corral there were stickers placed every six feet for social distancing purposes and masks were strongly incouraged.

The race course was marked well with beautiful Towne Lake Park scenery. Lots of volunteers cheering for the runners and giving encouragement!

Race medals and post-race snacks were prepackaged and ready for pickup after crossing the finish line. Once I crossed the finish line I was able to log onto their website and see my stats!

Great race, perfect weather.
