The Brew City 10k this year was one memorable race! My friends and I were flying in from out of state so we chose to have our race packets mailed to us. It was so convenient for us because we were able to fly in late Friday night and be ready for the race Saturday morning. It was nice having the race zip-up ahead of time to wash and bring with us on the trip. The zip-up is so soft! It is one of my favorite race premiums I've gotten.
This year (2018) the race morning weather was very interesting! It was bitter cold and alternated between rain, sleet, and snow during the race. I was very thankful I had signed up for the 10k and not the half marathon! The race course was on a trail and included an out and back portion. I really did not enjoy that layout for the race. It was on a paved trail but because of the weather conditions it made two-way traffic on the trail cumbersome. The race course itself was not my favorite part of the race and the weather didn't make it any better.
Even though the weather wasn't cooperating, the post race food and drink was great. My friend and I got brats and beer while we waited for my sister to finish the half marathon. It was raining/sleeting while we waited (and bitter cold!), so we ate and drank quickly to bundle ourselves back up. Once my sister finished her half marathon, we took a few pictures and tried to leave the race area. Because the roads around the park/race were closed, it was difficult to get an Uber home. We had to walk for about 10-15 minutes in the rain/sleet to get an Uber to take us back to our hotel. If the weather had been better, it wouldn't have been so bad.
Overall, it was a nice race, although much smaller than I expected. I wouldn't run the race again, but I am glad I did it this year. I love my premium and that made it worth the trip!
