Eric 's thoughts:

After a couple of miserable years, the weather for this race in 2018 was perfect. My previous half marathon at this race in 2014 had decent weather as well. Some aspects of the race management and the race deserve praise. The route was very clearly marked at the split between the half and the full as well as along the length where the half and full ran together. There were an adequate number of mile markers along the course and a luxurious number of aide stations. The race expo, while small, had everything a runner who might have forgotten something could want as well as a few things nobody could want. I got snookered by a slick carney huckster hawking those inflatable couch thingies. The post race party was in a big, wet field and there wasn't a band but it was plenty fun and there was a ton acceptable of post race food on which to munch. On race day both before and after the race, there were many information folks wandering around with signs and t-shirts that said "Ask Me" and this was pretty reassuring. Some things could have been done better. The race website had a bunch of broken and/or outdated links from the previous year. The race directors decided to switch their runner tracking over to an app - based system called RaceJoy and RaceJoy only works if you carry your phone during the race. I'll never carry a phone during a race. There were no hard copy results posted during the post race gathering and, although one of the "Ask Me" people was able to pull up a list of results in progress from some web site somewhere, this list apparently wasn't available to the runners who had just finished. The race t-shirts were awful! They were much better in 2014. Both the cut and the fabric were below par. I was hoping for a nice, dri-fit shirt and although the shirt was some sort of wicking fabric, it looks like it will be a poor performer. The cut was also crazy shoddy - just a barrel with a couple of sleeve cylinders stuck on it. Finally, the 730 am start time was unnecessarily early and made things tight - preventing us from making it to gear check before the race and curtailing our warmup run before the race. All things considered, this is a ok race and well organized but don't expect any nice surprises.
