Smaller scale race at the Pettit Ice Arena indoor track. Track is just over a 1/4 mile in length resulting in the half marathon needing to be ran 47.5 times.
Pre-race: not much direction as far as where to line up. Realized the starting line was on the other (far side) of the track. We were rudely told to make our way over to the other side. Almost to the other side when we were rudely told once again we had to approach the start line from the other direction as it would mess with our lap timing. Turned around and headed in the other direction only to be once again rudely told to "get off the track."
Headphones were not allowed so a DJ was playing music that was chosen by the participants. The music was loud enough and motivating enough. The aid station consisted of either a volunteer manned table, where you could call out your number and they would have your bottle ready for you next time you passed by. Or an unmanned table where you could just grab the water yourself. I myself chose this option.
There was a screen that showed your current splits and lap count and a screen further down the track that showed how many laps you had left. After about an hour and a half the laps remaining screen was no longer scrolling or showing what was left for the remaining runners.
There was also a marathon relay race happening the same day after the half and those individuals and their support crews started to lay out blankets and snacks and etc on the outskirts of the track. I was bumped into repeatedly by several of these individuals while still trying to finish my race.
After the medal was received (and mediocre at best would describe the design/size of the medal), we headed upstairs to the warming room where there was supposed to be food. The majority of the food was gone. There was some cookies and m&ms and like maybe 3 bananas cut up.
Very disappointing race from start to finish. I would not recommend this race. They have a lot of improvements to make in the future.
The only plus I can give this race is that it was indoors. Considering the negative temperatures outside on race day, it made running a half marathon in January in Wisconsin definitely more bearable.
