Andrea Stayton's thoughts:

My friends and I had been looking at this race for a few years and admired the race swag. We loved that the race swag was different, a nice book bag! We finally signed up and ran the half marathon in 2018.

The starting line was crowded but well managed. There weren't clear paces lined up like in other races which led to a slower start for me. Most of the course runs through downtown Savannah and surrounding neighborhoods. There were many long stretches through beautiful trees. However, there were also tedious turns through neighborhoods that slowed down my pace. Even though the race course was indeed flat, it wasn't not a easy run due to all the little turns.

After the race was over, the post race was held in a park. I received my medal and got much needed water. I had two drink coupons and got two mimosas, which were well deserved due to the humidity! My friends and I sat and enjoyed our mimosas while listening to the band play. Like I mentioned it was pretty hot so we didn't stay long, but it was a great place for a post race celebration.

Overall, it was a well run race and a great opportunity for a girl's race weekend. We all were training and hoping for a half marathon PR because the course is advertised as a flat course. Unfortunately, the humidity this year was higher than we expected and it wasn't the PR race we were all hoping for. Also, due to the nature of the windy turns through neighborhoods, it wasn't a fast and "easy" run. I liked the race, but I wouldn't run it again. I am still glad my friends and I traveled down for the race. The book bag is a great race swag!
