I ran this again this year (2017) after it being one of my first few 5Ks when I started running 10 years ago. I was super nostalgic and excited to run it, especially after the Cubs won the World Series this past fall. Sadly the race did lot live up to my expectations.
90% of my experience was just fine, but it was the end of the race that soured my run. I paid more for chip timing (there was also a "Fun Run" option), but as I exited Wrigley Field and turned onto Clark, the crowd stopped. There were thousands of runners stopped ahead, walking slowly to the finish line. Word trickled back that the slow-down was because you had to rip the identifying portion of your bib off and turn it in to get a medal. It took me over seven minutes to make it the two blocks between Clark/Addison and the finish line.
Still, there were some other pros: an attractive shirt (though a little tight fitting in the sleeves for me), a free beer from any number of Wrigleyville bars after the race, running through Wrigley Field itself (running through the concourses is super neat! Only thing better would be an off-season race that runs though the Field itself, in my opinion!). I would probably run this race again, but definitely opt for the Fun Run and rely on my own Garmin for timing.
