Jennifer 's thoughts:

RBC Run for the Kids is a family friendly fundraising event that pushes you to go further for youth mental health. Three distances are offered: 5K, 7K and 15K, all starting and finishing at iconic Mel Lastman Square in downtown Toronto.

Unlike most races, there is no entry fee for the RBC Run for the Kids. Instead, runners are encouraged to fundraise, with proceeds going to Sunnybrook Hospital's Family Navigation Project. In 2105, more than $2 million dollars was raised for the initiative.

The course is fast and flat, taking running throughout some of Toronto's nicest streets and parks. Running down Yonge Street will be a highlight for many runners, while running through pretty G. Ross Lord Park makes you believe you aren't in Toronto at all!

Aid stations are staffed by helpful and friendly volunteers, and are stocked with water and Gatorade. On the 15K course, Clif gels and ShotBloks are offered after 8K. In an effort to be green, cups are eco-friendly. Port-o-potties are located at each aid station as well.

The race is closed to traffic, with Toronto Police Service at each major intersection controlling traffic. Medics on bikes patrol the course. In short, this is a very safe course to run on.

Strollers are welcome at this incredibly family friendly event. The after-party is dedicated to kids and families, with live entertainment, snacks and a kids' zone.

Separate medals for each distance (with the ribbons different colours) are offered, and the race t-shirts are high quality tech shirts.

Post-race, runners are greeted with bagels, chocolate milk, bananas and hot food. Post-race massages are also available.

Email communication to race participants is fabulous, including updates on traffic, weather and accommodations. The race website is well designed and updated regularly.

Youth mental health is a cause close to my heart, and it is a good feeling knowing that events like RBC Run for the Kids helps not only get families active, but helps support them when they need it most.
