I have participated in the Wharf to Wharf consecutively for almost 10 years! I am reviewing the last year it was in person but the virtual event has been a great option too. It is one of my absolute favorite races to run each year and has created a very loyal following (me included).

The people who participate range from elite runners to walkers. This race has great scenic views, some challenging but not impossible hills, and awesome course support and entertainment. There are bands everywhere and community groups out to support you every step of the way. So cool! This race is a favorite among locals and visitors alike and sells out quickly every year.

The start can get a bit crowded, especially if you are in one of the slower corrals. You should expect some walking at the start, but not much as the runners spread out a bit along the course. After that, you are able to move as you need and go as fast as you like.

It should be noted that this is a one-way race, there is no loop that takes you back to the start line. After you finish, you will walk a couple of blocks to the beach where you can pick up your swag bag. In Capitola, you will follow a hill up to where you can get in line to take shuttles back to Santa Cruz, or make your own arrangements.
