There are not many races where you can take a dip in a tropical ocean after you finish. Puerto Rico Tropikal Half Marathon is one of them. The route is around historic Old San Juan and Condado in Puerto Rico. The event was punctual and well organized. Plenty of aid stations and enthusiastic volunteers. Race starts at 5:30am before the sun and heat create a problem for most runners. There are some dark areas, but volunteers do a good job of lighting those areas. You will run over cobblestones for some stretches but its manageable. A lot of runners stop for selfies on the many scenic spots. After the race is over you can enjoy a good breakfast at one of the many restaurants in old San Juan or go swim at Escambron beach. If you are planning a vacation in Puerto Rico, consider this race.

Race starts and ends at the Stars & Stripes drive in theater in New Braunfels. Its a small race with a beautiful medal. Nice finisher and participat shirts. The course is very flat! They had several water stations across the route. I admire the volunteers who stayed out in the cold to support us. No porta potties on the route, just at the start/finish. About half the race is on gravel but its well packed. Hamburger and beer at the end was pretty good!
I enjoyed the race as a long run with some perks. Bring headphones. It may be a bit boring as there is not much scenery and no crowd support.
